ayurveda
Ayurveda literally translates to
‘the knowledge of life’.
An accurate representation of this natural system of medicine with its principles deriving from life itself.
Despite this health system being over 5,000 years old, its truth still remains relevant today in our current era. This is because the foundation of Ayurveda is not subject to becoming obsolete, debunked or altered as it is rooted in the building blocks of the universe, the elements.
These elements and their characteristics are ever present, Ayurveda teaches us how to acknowledge and understand their presence in all that is around and within us. Enabling us to gather the tools needed to navigate the changes that inevitably arise seasonally, cyclically or situationally.
Through this, Ayurveda aids us in harmoniously navigating our way through life whilst optimising our health, understanding our interconnectedness, improving our vitality and vigour and enjoying each part of the journey.
Demonstrating a true holistic health model, acknowledging every part of an individual, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
core focus
Ayurveda prioritises digestion and lymphatic health as keys to wellness. It addresses root causes rather than a symptomatic approach to health. It considers emotions, stress and corrosive thoughts as precursors to illness. It emphasises eating and living in alignment with both natures seasons and cycles as well as our own. Rather than preaching “you are what you eat” it believes “you are what you digest” or rather, what you don't. And lastly but perhaps most importantly, Ayurveda does not use any blanket rules for recommendations, viewing every person as an individual eco system with their own set of sensitivities, allergies, strengths, predispositions etc.

Abhyanga is a full body Ayurvedic massage. It is focused on stimulating your lymphatic system which we call Rasa Dhatu in Ayurveda. Your lymphatic system is responsible for maintaining fluid waste in the body and for transporting lymphocytes through your body. Lymphocytes are the white blood cells in your body responsible for fighting virus, bacteria and toxins. This treatment helps to cleanse and revitalise the body through dispelling the build up of toxins in the body and in your lymphatic fluid whilst also fortifying your immunity. Through using warm, herbal medicated oils and specific strokes Abhyanga can achieve its desired affect.
Potential Benefits
- Delay the ageing process by removing toxins from tissue
- Combat fatigue
- Balance the nervous system and reduces Vata or elevated stress/anxiety and tension in the body
- Increase stamina, cell longevity, sleep, skin health and can even improve your digestive capability and internal digestive fire

Shirodhara translates to stream or flow of a substance onto your forehead. It is a treatment focused around your nervous system. It aims to bring you out of your sympathetic nervous system which is often termed ‘ fight or flight’ and into a parasympathetic state of true rest and repair for the body and mind. In Ayurveda it is described as a treatment that is tri-doshic , meaning it is balancing and harmonising for all. It is rejuvenating and stabilising for mind and body.
The oil is poured directly onto your forehead between the brows or the third eye in a slow stream which gently brings you into a state of relaxation and in some cases meditation. This process stimulates the pineal gland which is responsible for synthesising Serotonin and Melatonin. The treatment also involves hand, foot massage and head massage to ground, calm and support the body before and after the treatment.
Potential Benefits
- Calm the mind
- Rejuvenate the nervous system and body
- Help combat insomnia
- Good for migraine or headache sufferers
- Aid hormonal balance

These Ayurvedic treatments are used to treat discomfort and pain arising anywhere along the spinal column.
The treatment involves a well of dough which we call a Basti, placed on the affected area. Warm/hot oil is poured in and the temperature is maintained for 20 minutes. The oil penetrates, warms and opens the tissues to be accepting and safe for the spinal and back massage. Afterwards a soft tissue massage is done according to Ayurvedic principles.
Potential Benefits
- Promote blood flow to aid healing process
- Relieve stiffness, particularly if related to immobilisation of area
- Prevent atrophy of surrounding muscular tissue from inactivity due to guarding of the area
- Balance the causative factors through warmed medicated oil
